Sodium-ion batteries have been overshadowed by lithium-ion batteries for decades, but there is a thousand times more sodium in the earth’s crust than lithium. And now battery chemistry has evolved to the point where sodium-ion batteries have similar energy densities to their lithium competitors. In addition, the sodium-ion battery is lighter, safer, cheaper and cleaner than lithium-ion batteries. Chinese battery makers, such as CATL and BYD, have started mass production and will even use sodium-ion batteries in electric cars. This could really be a game changer for the energy transition.<\/p>\n

So what does this mean for the industry? How will this new technology impact the market and what are the opportunities for businesses and consumers alike? Let’s dive deeper and explore their potential in this podcast episode with Prof. Maximilian Fichtner and Dr. Dominic Bresser from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).<\/p>\n
