Mystery solved: self-discharge in batteries

Sensational research success: Researchers at a Canadian university have solved the mystery of self-discharge in batteries and the reason surprises everyone. Battery self-discharge means that a battery loses some of its charge after being stored at a certain temperature for a certain period of time. This means the battery is discharged even though no consumer is connected.

Why this is so was not finally clarified in research until recently. Researchers at Dalhousie University in Canada have now solved this mystery with a discovery and the reason is much more banal than you can imagine. We talk to the two researchers Sebastian Büchele and Tom Bötticher about their discovery.
